PROFILE
I am Luis Barquero Vernet, a visual artist, illustrator, and educator. My practice investigates the intersections of perception, memory, and the image, developing a visual inquiry that materializes through painting, drawing, photography, and collage.
I possess an extensive professional trajectory spanning artistic creation, illustration, graphic design, and art direction. Over the past three decades, I have engineered direct marketing campaigns, corporate identity, and visual communication for international institutions and corporations—including Planeta De Agostini, Harvard-Deusto, American Express, and Banco Sabadell—alongside numerous premier advertising agencies.
My foundation in the plastic arts is fundamentally autodidactic. This self-directed pursuit led me to integrate into ASACO (Association of Contemporary Artists) in the mid-1990s, exhibiting in Barcelona and Paris. Concurrently, I contributed to the visual development of various projects for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
As an illustrator, I have designed book covers for Círculo de Lectores–Grupo Bertelsmann and created numerous album covers for record labels such as Max Music and PDI.

Parallel to my commercial practice, I have cultivated a rigorous artistic inquiry centered on the processes of observation, fragmentation, and reconstruction of the image. In recent years, I have deeply specialized in the dry brush technique, applying its unique textural and perceptual qualities to both classical portraiture and contemporary illustration.
Currently based in Querétaro, Mexico, I integrate my artistic and pedagogical practice with ongoing projects of visual creation and experimentation. I have exhibited my work in Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, and other venues, including Galería Aguafuerte. Additionally, I have directed specialized masterclasses in dry brush oil on paper in Mineral de Pozos and San Luis Potosí.
Ultimately, my work is an invitation to arrest the gaze and explore the fragments of reality, memory, and experience that actively construct our perception of the world.
